Employment
We teach the “unteachable.”
We welcome the “misunderstood.”
We create safe spaces.
We set everyone up to succeed.
We build confidence. We create joy. We make music.
We create safe spaces by:
- our physical space in itself
- calming tools
- Inclusion of all genders and ethnicities (we don’t only teach about old white male composers)
- Respect (saying a child’s name correctly and using it! Because there is no sweeter sound in the world than the sound of your own name)
-Promoting Kindness
- Validating their emotions and offering to help find solutions
- Student-led learning (no saying “That was wrong.” We ask them what THEY thought about their playing of a song)
- Assumed Competence
- We encourage learning through mistakes, mess, and NOISE!
Our goal is to help all kids feel inspired to do whatever makes them happiest.
Whatever makes them feel the most like them.
But Honestly, the job is not all roses and puppy dogs….okay, there ARE Musical Therapy Dogs...so I guess it’s not all roses.
There’s some good news and there’s some bad news.
Let’s get the bad news out of the way first:
Our teachers are required to have fun during every single lesson.
This could be playing a fun song or a music game (Music Twister is the BEST!).
This could be listening to a student talk about his favorite book for 10 minutes.
If you can’t:
- be a kid again
- loosen up and have fun
- listen to kids talk about anything and everything
- sit on the floor with a kid
- be silly
- play Music Twister
...THEN THIS IS NOT THE JOB FOR YOU!
Now let’s talk about the good stuff:
1) The work is fun! You will be teaching kids how to play music through games and curriculum that gets them reading music fast.
2) We aren’t big on stress. Our music school has a groovy, laid-back environment for teachers and students.
3) Great pay and paid holidays off. ($20/hr while teaching. $10/hr for training.)
4) No teaching experience necessary. We will train you how to teach and how to work with kids. There’s no lesson planning on your part. Everything is done for you. All you have to do is follow the curriculum and have FUN! No scheduling. No collecting payments. No dealing with parents. We do all of that “dirty work” for you!
5) You get to work around Musical Therapy Dogs!
Now, let’s talk about the job requirements:
You will need to be able to play, have fun, and be a kid again. We need the Miss Frizzle of music teachers. Ready to “take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!”
You will need to value fun in music lessons. Our music lessons aren’t boring and you aren’t going to be the typical music teacher that requires a student to practice and be perfect. You are here to make sure they have a fun and positive experience with music lessons.
Everything you do within the school must be done in a way that changes the world’s perception of music lessons. The way you teach. The way you interact with students. The way you interact with parents. The way you interact with other teachers. The photos/videos you take during lessons. All of this must be done in a way that changes the world’s perception of music lessons. Don’t worry. We’ll help you with this. But you have to be open and willing.
If you read ALL of that, and you’re STILL up for the challenge, fill out the form below.
If we approve of your taste in Disney movies (HAHA!) we will reach out via text and invite you in for an interview!
