ABOUT MISS EMILY’S
MUSIC SCHOOL

Miss Emily had just moved from California to Kansas with her husband because of the Army. They had just adopted a puppy (Abrams) and she wanted to stay with him as much as possible. At the time, she was studying to become a Certified Flight Instructor and thought that teaching piano lessons would expose her to different learning styles while letting her stay home with Abrams. She started Miss Emily’s Piano Lessons. She had no idea that she would fall in love with making music lessons fun for kids. When she was growing up, she saw students hating music lessons that were forced upon them. She decided she wanted her school to be the exact opposite of that.
JANUARY 2019
In 2019, Miss Emily’s Piano Lessons became Miss Emily’s Music School. It went from being an in-home school to a commercial building. The school now offers piano, guitar, ukulele, drum, voice, bass, and rock band lessons. Abrams and his sister Gertie became Musical Therapy Dogs and work in the school to help nervous students. In October 2019, Miss Emily opened a performance venue for her students so that they can share their music with the Manhattan community.
THE MISS EMILY MAGIC
When Miss Emily made the decision to hire more teachers, she wanted to make sure that her teachers were teaching EXACTLY like she would. One of the highlights of Miss Emily’s Music School is that there are multiple teachers that are trained in the Miss Emily Magic. This means more scheduling flexibility and options for you. Our teachers go through rigorous training so that they are prepared to implement the curriculum, games, and level system that Miss Emily developed.
THE OLD LOGO
Miss Emily often gets asked to tell the story behind the school’s old logo. Miss Emily is a Commercial Helicopter Pilot and is an active member of the Flying Musicians Association. Pilots possess the same skills that musicians do and airlines used to actively recruit musicians to become pilots because of those similar skills.
